My Story - Tom Prefling
Last Updated on 07/09/17

I graduated from the University of Arizona in 1972 with a BA in English Literature, then joined the Navy to avoid the draft (smart, huh). I spent 8 1/2 years in the Navy producing training films and videos and picked up a Masters in Film Ed from USC along the way.

I've been in Phoenix since August 1981. I've managed video and multimedia production departments for many of the larger companies here, including Samaritan Health, Honeywell IAC and the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. Currently I'm the Director of Communications for U-Haul International, Inc.

From 1989-2001 I wan also an adjunct faculty member of Glendale Community College, teaching classes in video and multimedia production.

In 2006, I launched U-Haul University (UHU), an eLearning site for U-Haul. In 2017, UHU was accredited for continuing education credits...a big bucket-list item for me.

My wife Brenda and I have been married since 1974 and have four wonderful children: Erin (married to Mike), Michael (married to Laura), Jennifer (married to Sam) and Emily (married to Tyler). We also have nine grandchildren: Emily, Maddy, Jonah, Emma, Molly, Piper, Max, Michael and Benjamin.

I'm not good about writing, calling, or visiting, but I do respond to email.

Message to the Class:
"If you can't smile, grin. If you can't grin, stay out of the way till you can."
-- Winston Churchill

My thoughts on turning 50.
