My Story - Michael Turk

Last updated 8/20/08

Went into the Navy after High School.  Nine and a half years in, met this wonderful girl (really a “girl,” I was 23 and she was 16); asked her father (the Pastor of my church) if I could date her; his question “what are your intentions”, to which I replied “I’m going to marry her”, to which HE replied, “as soon as she graduates from college”. So, six years later, we got married.  She was well worth the wait! After five years, started with the “babies”…one every two years, Girl, Boy, Girl, and reluctantly my wife said “enough” after three. But they have been an absolute blessing to us and continue to be one of the main joys in our life.

Retired after twenty years as a Chief Petty Officer. Worked at a software development company, for the same government customer, for eighteen years, with six company name changes, in San Jose, California. Finally decided it was time to move on and quite last October and went to work for one of my vendors (SAIC), in San Diego. Sold my house of 18 years, pulled up stakes and headed south. One of the better decisions of my life! (Marrying Deb was the first!) Have the “fun” of managing 76 people, and six Functional Area Managers, from hourly assemblers to Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, my “menagerie”. Never a “dull” moment!

Message to Class:“Age” is irrelevant, it’s your “mind set” that counts.
