My Story - Bill Koehler

After graduation I went on to the U of A and completed my BA in Secondary Education. As it seemed I coached the wrong sports, I went ahead to finish my Master's in Special Education and taught visually impaired students in TUSD for 5 years. In 1980 I was married, had a beautiful baby girl, and within the year we were on an adventure that would take us all over the country. We moved to upstate New York where I was a school principal for two years. From there, we moved to Austin Texas where I continued as a school principal for 10 years.

During this time I worked on my PhD in special education/educational administration. One more trip to the midwest and we landed in Janesville WI where I was a school superintendent for 5 years. During this time my wife looked into returning to school (she is a nurse) to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams--she studied and completed her training in anesthesia. Her residency was set for Harlingen, Texas which is in deep South Texas. I quit my job and followed her there. We were there for two years while she finished that ordeal. Finally we made our way back to Austin for her dream job.

We are very much at home in Austin as our two older children were already living here--they opted out of the Wisconsin trek. Our oldest son in a firefighter here, and our oldest daughter works in one the area high schools and is considering returning to school for her teaching degree. We have 4 grandchildren ages 5, 3, 2 and 4 months. Each one is a treasure in their own right.

T ucson is still home and we love it when we can get there. Most of my family still lives including my parents who are in the same house!!

Looking forward to seeing some old friends and acquaintences next month!!
